Protection From Abuse (PFA) Orders Providing Relief From Threats And Violence

A protection from abuse (PFA) is a civil procedure available to someone who is a target of domestic violence from an intimate partner, a family member or a member of their household. Abuse is defined as a physical injury or the threat of physical violence.

Who Qualifies?

  • You must be an adult member of the household or an adult acting on behalf of a child
  • You must have one of the following relationships with the accused abuser:

    • Biological parent of a mutual child
    • Current or past intimate partner
    • Domestic partner
    • Related by marriage
